Digital Marketing Intern

June - August 2019 • New Delhi, Delhi

What I liked

Lovely work environment and culture, very easy to fit in and an extremely welcoming and involved staff team.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been assigned more work

Advice

Since this is one of the largest digital marketing companies in the world, take advantage of all the different departments and types of servicing they provide to their clients. It’s an amazing way to gather a larger breadth of knowledge for those interested in marketing, technology and even Public relations related fields. Alternatively, if you want to focus on just one thing you know you want to do in the future, it’s very easy to just ask and immerse yourself in any of their project teams in any departments.

Paid Search and Paid Social

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I was part of the Resident program and worked Monday to Friday 9am -5pm. This was an insightful and engaging internship . I was involved in various projects and had actual work and deadlines to meet. I also participated in meetings with clients and senior staff. I also worked on a pitch project and had to present to a big time client. Also, I loved the amount of free food events and product giveaways. The work space was an open office which felt comfortable and the office interior was so unique and fun. I got to meet and make friends with a lot of kind and helpful coworkers. Lastly, I was also able to meet and talk with executives and senior staff that gave great advices.

What I wish was different

There is nothing I would change It was an awesome and great learning experience.

Advice

You are expected to give your best in everything you do so you might as well meet those expectations. Also be open to learn and share your ideas because we were all learning from each other.

Resident for Magna Investment

June - August 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

IPG Mediabrands offers great exposure for its residents. I was able to talk with many pioneers and leaders in the media landscape and learn invaluable information that can transcend the world of advertising. They also had events with other companies in New York; we had the opportunity to visit the Yext HQ and learn more about their business. IPG understands that internships are learning experiences and a great opportunity for growth, and that was definitely a major strength of this program. Finally, the world of media is very fun and casual, and I think that was what caused me to form deep relationships with my coworkers and other interns.

What I wish was different

I wish I was given more responsibility as a resident. I found that work days were slow and I had to fill my time with personal research, meeting with people within the agency, and making my own work. Also, though I understand internships are meant for learning above all, the pay was incredibly low, especially for New York City. I barely made rent, and buying groceries was a point of stress for me. I found that this internship would be inaccessible to low-income students, and it is sad that such opportunities, though are obviously not exclusive for higher-income students, really disallow those with lower incomes to have an experience like this one due to the low pay.

Advice

Use your time to reach out and speak to employees at the company. Learn more about the industry and ask about personal experiences. The more you can know, the better you will succeed.

Communications Design Resident

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved the work environment, I was treated like a valuable member of the team and more than just an intern. I learned so much about the advertising industry and grew a lot from the experience.

What I wish was different

I wish I had a little more of a rotation with other teams and learned more about what they did for the company just to get a more general feel of the different departments in the company.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions, the more you ask the more you learn and people have more respect for those willing to admit they are unfamiliar with something.

Media Strategy Resident

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I liked the structure of the program and the work that I was able to contribute. It was a 10-week program comprising of around 100 other interns. We had weekly information sessions learning about different aspects of the industry and other companies under the umbrella of IPG Mediabrands. I felt that the structure of the program helped me to meet other students around the country and network with them, but also learn about the Advertising/Media Industry and network with professionals within it. Each intern was also placed in a group of 10 to complete a project for one of the actual clients of the company. My group was tasked to make a media plan for LEGO. In addition, I loved the work I did in the Strategy department. It was a mix of data analysis with creative thinking. My team gave me a lot of responsibility, allowed me to be hands-on and contribute work that was actually used and showed to executives.

Advice

Talk to the professionals that you work with, or reach out to others whose jobs seem interesting. The experience is all an opportunity to network and make relationships, so that is definitely important.
