Business Development Intern

June - August 2022 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

I got travel opportunities, learned a lot and their training methods were a good fit for my learning style. Treated us like real employees and got most of the office perks. I really enjoyed the location and the people I worked with, it was a very positive company culture. I felt valued.

What I wish was different

There's not a lot I didn't like! It was not super relative to my major, so I leaned a lot of professional etiquette and how to perform with excellence in a corporate environment (interactions, presentations, emailing, calendaring, and prioritization) but nothing to take into a Supply Chain Management role.

Advice

Talk! Ask lots of questions, make lots of friends and never be afraid to speak up.

Business Development Intern

July - August 2020 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

I got to work on real projects for my team such as finding process improvements for the Marketing department. I also liked that I had both a team and individual project throughout the summer, so I got to have a balance of working styles.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have interacted with my team as well as the other interns more, as we were primarily in an online format.

Advice

There is a big learning curve in the beginning of the internship due to the nature of contract-management. I really had no idea what to expect and it was overwhelming at first. However, once you're assigned to your internal team, you will have a better understanding of the business model as it relates to both types of clients, Hiring Clients and their contractors.

What I liked

We were as much responsibility as full time employees and room to be creative. But they also took time to educate us on how the company works and the importance of company culture in a career. There was an end of internship presentation that each intern presented to a group of senior associates and the CEO, and the practice and effort put into the presentations helped me before a stronger presenter.

What I wish was different

There was a 'grading' structure that was often discussed and ranked the intern class on a scale of 1-35/35 interns. Supervisors and other employees often talked about it, which was interesting as we couldn't see the actual grading itself.

Advice

Be flexible and open minded. Every day was different and some work is a bit tedious and boring.
