What I liked

I loved getting to live and work in a new part of the country while gaining valuable experience.

What I wish was different

I wish I would've done a little more research about specifics of where I would be staying but that's really the only thing I wish that would have been different.

What I liked

Hours are very flexible and the pay rate is pretty high

What I wish was different

Seasonal Support

May - August 2018 • East Lansing, MI

What I liked

Flexible Hours, air conditioned, and close to campus. Worked well with students.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more tasks to do. For a seasonal position, mostly data entry is the only task. (Very easy though)

Advice

It goes by faster to work in the mornings than in night. They are very flexible with hours so it is perfect to work around classes.

Strategic Support Associate

June 2015 • Lansing, MI

What I liked

Jackson National Life is a wonderful place to work as a college student. The hours are very flexible, the $12.50 pay rate is excellent, and the ability to have a employer-contributing 401k for a part time job is unheard of. In addition to this, since moving to Kalamazoo from Lansing, I have been able to still work for the company in a work-at-home capacity.

What I wish was different

I wish I had applied to work there sooner than I had!

Advice

A flexible job during college is incredibly important. The stress of schooling, money, and time management is much easier when you are able to set your own schedule.

Operations Interm

July 2016 - March 2017 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

The schedule was fairly flexible, and everyone at the company was extremely helpful. Interns were encouraged to take on meaningful projects that made an impact on the teams they worked with.

What I wish was different

It can be difficult in the finance industry to transition between areas of specialization. I wouldn't say this is something I wish was different about the internship, but rather that I had been aware of before starting my internship search.

Advice

Your work and development is absolutely being noticed by those around you. If you put in effort and challenge yourself, people will make room for you to grow.
