My supervisors were very kind and I learned a lot through them. DC is a beautiful and exciting city with a lot of opportunities.
What I wish was different
It can be sort of isolating to move to a new city alone for 3 months.
Advice
Take advantage of all the networking opportunities. Most of the professionals in the area are so willing to sit down and grab coffee and chat because they remember how hard it can be to get your foot in the door. I was able to meet with the Director of the Reagan Foundation, several federal advisors, the research director for the Institute for the Study of War... People are very willing to help out if you take the initiative and ask them.
