Conservation and Grant Writing Intern

April - July 2019 • Saint Petersburg, FL

What I liked

The team at Keep Pinellas Beautiful is very passionate about what they do (litter prevention, waste reduction, education, and beautification/community greening) and overall this is a very welcoming environment for interns. I enjoyed getting to see how a nonprofit is run and learning how each cleanup, invasive removal, beautification project, and education presentation is set up, planned, and delivered. The chance to learn about Florida native species, gardening, invasive species, microplastics, and marine debris was amazing.

What I wish was different

Nothing.

Advice

This is not an internship for introverts or people who want to hide in a lab all day. You'll be interacting with other interns, KPB staff, and lots of volunteers both in and out of the office. Attending events like plantings, cleanups, and invasive removals is an essential part of the internship, which means you connect with a lot of community members.
