Everything- the people at Keio were fun and knew how to balance work and free time, and I made some really good friends during my time there. The students were also amazing to work with and it was great being able to bond with them over two weeks. Being able to lesson plan and practice my translation skills was also an important part of my experience
What I wish was different
We did not have designated jobs in the beginning so that was a little stressful, but it ended up working out great and I was able to find a system pretty quickly
Advice
Don’t be afraid to practice Japanese (especially with the students) because everyone is there to learn!

Academic Intern
June - August 2019 • Purchase, NY
What I liked
Super friendly and international environment. It is a Japanese Academy so it was a great chance to practice my japanese with the participants and staff. I also gained a lot of education experience by creating lesson plans and teaching classes in both English and Japanese.
What I wish was different
We had to create/choose what our role would be as interns, so I just wish that process was a bit more smooth and organized.
Advice
Take time to get to know the participants, staff, and other interns. Not only will it add to your network, but you develop great friendships and relationships.
