Through back-and-forth emails with various secretaries of states for many states, I have learned how to communicate effectively and in a professional manner. I learned how to ask for what I was specifically looking for instead of just being vague, and I learned how to understand and analyze different sets of data and find the correlation between them and explain it.
What I wish was different
Fortunately, there's not really anything that I wish I had done differently. It's an entry-level work-study position that pays a good amount of money, and it gave me the necessary experience I needed to propel myself further into the fields of both Computer Science and Economics.
Advice
I would let other students know that this experience is both low time commitment and flexible, meaning it is a great opportunity for students to gain experience in the field of Economics in whatever schedule fits them best. One thing I learned most from this experience is to not be scared to apply. Even if the job description may look intimidating, you might just be the right fit.
