Kiler Ridge Olive Oil

Tasting Room Associate

August 2019 • Paso Robles, CA

What I liked

I love working at Kiler Ridge because customers are really interested in the tastings and what you have to say. Once you get the structure of what you want to say, giving the tastings makes you feel like you're giving a TedTalk. The customers are also generally nice and tip well which is a perk! The views are amazing- definitely the best view I'll ever have at a job. I also really enjoy the people who work here. Kiler Ridge is a small family business, so you end up getting to know everyone pretty well. Plus, I like that I'm not sitting in a chair staring at a screen all day. I started this job in college over a summer and ended up staying and working on weekends during the school year. As far as college part time jobs go I can't think of a cooler/better choice than Kiler Ridge.

What I wish was different

I wish the farm was closer to San Luis Obispo. Paying for gas adds up. Tasting room associates are almost always Cal Poly students though, so carpooling is an option.

Advice

Even though the wage is $15/hr, with tips it ends up being closer to $18-22/hr! Working at Kiler Ridge is an awesome opportunity for ag business and business majors. You get to see a lot of what it takes to run a business. I have a degree in nutrition, so this job wasn't necessarily in my field but I did gain a lot of transferrable skills. I was also promoted to tasting room manager which looks good on my resume.
