You did not need any knowledge or other stuff to understand that they were there to help you out, and answering so many questions is the best part of working. It is a way of learning throughout the process, getting you to settle in quickly, feeling like part of them as a full-time job, and getting to know more about what a department can do for the whole city itself.
What I wish was different
Not a lot of wish that could be different being there was the experience and getting lots of training there no need for more, or improvements needs it the best how it is on the person itself and how they feel on working for the Sanitation and it how they like it or not.
Advice
Ask as many questions as you, the more you question the better to have a better understanding of what to do in a work environment like that, don't be scared to make a mistake it has happened to me it is great to learn the mistakes nobody will get mad, they teach how to do the proper way, so enjoy the opportunity for working at a metropolis.
