Leadbird

Marketing Intern

June - August 2021 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I enjoyed the direct one to one work I had with clients and establishing positive relationships with them as an intern. It was great to coordinate with them, produce work for Leadbird, and watch the work I had done help them and fulfill important tasks that I could see in real time.

What I wish was different

Because of the pandemic, it was all virtual which was sometimes difficult because I think I would've gained a lot more in an in person environment. Being the only intern was also sometimes hard because I was only collaborating with my boss but on the other hand, I was given a lot of one on one attention which was great and greatly enhanced my marketing learning experience.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions or give your input. In a world that is being transformed by technology, digital marketing is becoming increasingly important and as a young person having lived though much of the transformation, your superiors often genuinely care and value what you have to say about digital marketing and social media marketing, etc. Asking questions and being insightful is not only helpful to you but to them as well.

Digital Marketing Intern

May 2019 • Newark, NJ

What I liked

I liked that since it was a small company, they placed a lot of responsibility on me. I was directly handling accounts and making managerial decisions every day. The job was also very flexible with scheduling and worked around my class schedule.

What I wish was different

Since we were a small team I found myself doing tasks unrelated to marketing. It is great to have that experience but at the end of the day, I would have rathered worked on more marketing-related tasks and designated unrelated activities to another employee/intern.

Advice

Don't be afraid to work for a start-up! Coming from a corporate environment, it was a major shift for me, but I found myself more comfortable and even more valued. There's a lot of opportunity for growth in small to medium businesses!
