The company has a great culture and supervisors are always happy to help
What I wish was different
Sometimes planning by management is skewed especially during busy season
Advice
It is customer service but really a valuable internship

Customer Service Loan Specialist Intern
June - August 2019 • Cincinnati, OH
What I liked
It was a fulfilling experience where I got to work with a diverse group of people and learn about the student loan process.
What I wish was different
I wish we were able to interact more with other departments within the company. It was very much a summer job rather than an internship program.
Advice
Never be afraid to ask question. Training can only prepare you so much for the job. Everything else you learn by doing and asking the questions needed.

Origination Intern
June - August 2019 • Blue Ash, OH
What I liked
I liked that I got to experience the financial industry first hand. The underwriting I did for Lendkey was very valuable, I worked with a team of interns to critique part of the origination process and that was a good experience. Overall just a fun work environment.
What I wish was different
I wish I had more of an important role in the company. I feel as if I could've gotten other internships that would be more applicable to the rest of my career. It isn't glamorous but it is a decent job.
Advice
Be willing to take criticism and interact with clients that can be intimidating. A lot of our clients were form Navy Federal CU which only services veterans, so those clients require a high degree of knowledge and customer service.

Loan Specialist
June - August 2019 • Cincinnati, OH
What I liked
Large group of interns allowed me to meet a variety of people with shared interests. The office is brand new and had great working conditions. Management and full-time employees were always willing to help. Also completed a project in which we presented our ideas for improvement to the management team. Good access to upper level management and C-suite.
What I wish was different
A more typical schedule would be useful and there were some cases of micromanagement, but really not much I didn't like.
Advice
It's a smaller company so take advantage of being able to talk to upper level management and get advice and insight on the industry.

Intern Loan Specialist
June - August 2017 • Cincinnati, OH
What I liked
It was one of the most fantastic experiences I've ever had. I learned telemarketing skills like professional empathy, gained insight into the student loan industry as a whole (including a better understanding of how my own loans function), and worked with some of the most incredible people. Truly worth it.
What I wish was different
Considering I didn't know what to expect, I wouldn't change a thing.
Advice
Ask questions! Especially early on. Your learning curve is just that. Yours! People will offer you information all day long, but unless you pursue the questions that are really pertinent or important to you, trial and error will be your teacher. While its methods are effective, your managers and co-workers are much more friendly and cooperative.
