The Lincoln Police Department is always accepting applications for entry-level police officers, and we regularly hire for a wide variety of professional staff positions. We know that diversity makes us better, so we’re committed to building a department that reflects the community we serve, and we encourage people from all walks of life to apply. We can and will teach you skills, so our main considerations in the hiring process are your character and talent. Every member of Team LPD is exposed to a wide variety of experiences and has countless opportunities for professional growth by way of both advanced training and promotional opportunities.
We’re a community-based department serving a population of about 290,000 spread over 100 square miles. We police very differently than most departments our size in that we subscribe to a generalist policing philosophy. This means our patrol officers are responsible for actually conducting investigations on most cases rather than gathering basic information and immediately turning the case over to a specialized investigative unit, and we give them the training they need to do it well.
As the 69th largest city in the country and home to six colleges and universities, Lincoln combines all the amenities of a big city with the feel of a much smaller town. It's no wonder we're consistently ranked as one of the best places in the country to live, work, play, and raise a family.
