Software Developer Intern

What I liked

Fantastic work environment. It's super clear that your coworkers want you to succeed as an intern. There was constant feedback throughout the 3 months so you could get an idea of whether or not you were meeting expectations.

Advice

If you are a senior, you may only find out whether or not you will be extended a full time offer in the last week of the internship.

Platform Team Software Developer

May - August 2017 • Bellingham, WA

What I liked

Attention to interns is highly individualized, and the company works diligently to assimilate interns to the company culture and values. The CEO is consistently involved in getting to know individual interns, and the company environment continually encourages the growth and development of its employees.

What I wish was different

It would have been good if I had done more work with other teams. I did have the opportunity to work with a different team toward the end of the internship, which the company happily supported.

Advice

Take responsibility for your own growth, take every opportunity to work with people older and more talented than you, and don't confine your responsibilities to those stated in your job description.

Software Developer Intern

May - August 2018 • Bellingham, WA

What I liked

The community's fun and welcoming nature, and its emphasis on learning, independence, and fairly quick upward mobility.

What I wish was different

I wish I had a more seasoned developer as my mentor, and perhaps someone who had mentored someone before. I did not get the guidance I needed until it was too late, and practices that I should have avoided earlier were not addressed.

Advice

Faithlife is far more concerned with getting it done right than getting it done quick - especially during the internship. Check and recheck your code, and use your git client and git repo's diff view to glean mistakes before requesting a merge request or another colleague to review your code.
