The Nashville International Center for Empowerment (NICE) ensures refugees and immigrants achieve their full potential now and for generations to come. The organization began when a child soldier and refugee from South Sudan recognized a need of services for Sudanese refugees in Nashville. Dr. Gatluak Thach, our current President & CEO, opened up his home to teach Sudanese women to speak and write the English language. Since 2005, NICE’s services have been crucial in supporting the economic, linguistic, and civic integration of more than 28,000 New Americans in Middle Tennessee. NICE’s integration initiatives are aimed at supporting refugees, immigrants, and their children in successfully joining mainstream U.S. society. As New Americans lay roots in Nashville, NICE facilitates the integration process by implementing programs for social interaction, education, employment, and health referrals.
