Through this internship, I was able to gain experience in my prospective field of criminal defense. I gained hands-on experience in a law office and the job provided crucial insight into how law is practiced on a day-to-day basis. The knowledge and experience I gained will prove invaluable as I work toward a career as a public defender. The assigned readings and journal entries allowed me to reflect on my experiences and relate them to broader issues involving the criminal justice system.
What I wish was different
The class was structured very well and my position in the public defender firm offered outstanding experience.
Advice
Although it was a difficult decision of whether or not to accept this position and take on a new challenge, I am glad I did it. The experience I have gained and connections I have made during my time at the Public Defender's Office will aid me in my pursuit of a law degree.
