A lot of opportunity to learn about different areas. Got hand on ability to manage social media calendar and tools.
What I wish was different
early stage media startup, so we didn’t have much campaign experience and didn’t get to run paid ads at this stage.
Advice
This is a great opportunity if you are a go getter and not looking for set directions. As it’s in early stages and nationwide, the team is diverse and the topics are general with goals, but a lot of freedom to decide HOW you get a result (as long as you can explain why).

What I liked
The company culture was casual and relaxed and interns had a lot of control over their experience. Everyone was approachable, no matter their placement in the company hierarchy, and interns were encouraged to speak their minds and give ideas to the CEO and other higher-ups.
What I wish was different
It was a startup company without income during my internship, so no one was paid. Also, even though no one was compensated for their work, the CEO seemed to expect interns to prioritize our responsibilities at the company over everything else in our lives. However, if someone expressed an inability to complete a task, the CEO was understanding and that person wasn't penalized in any way.
Advice
Don't turn away from this intership just because it's unpaid! Working with ONC was such a fun and interesting experience. If you have the time, take on additional tasks. The culture (CEO included) is incredibly inviting and encouraging--participate in discussions and don't be afraid to ask questions.

What I liked
ONC is a great opportunity to grow your skills within the career you are interested in pursuing. There is a large variety of internships available including from Human Resources, UI/UX design, multiple positions within the Business dept, Economic Policy, Scriptwriting, etc.
What I wish was different
The internship is unpaid but does have an option to receive course credit. Regardless, this is made very clear to applicants from the very first job posting.
Advice
Take the opportunity to network within the organization and try to take up as many opportunities made available to you. Do not hesitate to ask questions about the organization.

HR Intern

What I liked
I loved being able to network with other students from around the US, and even globally. Being a start-up I was able to gain more hands-on experience with the recruitment, screening, interviewing and on-boarding processes. The internship also gave me the opportunity to meet people from different fields of my own and network across various departments and teams.
What I wish was different
Internship is unpaid, however, this is clearly stated from the job posting to the interview.
Advice
The internship is what you make of it. The work you put in, is what you will get of it, including the connections you make.
