Peer leader

September - December 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I enjoyed being a mentor to the freshman, the experience taught me to be appreciative of all of the resources I have available to me. I hope I assisted in their growth in some way and I hope they can continue to come to me for advice no matter what it may be.

What I wish was different

In a class of twenty kids, it is inevitable where some kids may not accept the help but other kids will utilize all of their resources. I wish I could have helped every one of my kids but some made the decision to no longer show interest in the school before I could help them.

Advice

I highly recommend being a peer leader to all upcoming sophomores. This is a valuable leadership experience which taught me responsibility because I was no longer looking out for myself, I was also trying to help a group of students succeed.

Orientation Leader

June - August 2019 • Pleasantville, NY

What I liked

I liked that I was able to be a mentor and guide for first-year students. I was there if they needed help with any advice about coming to Pace or if they were anxious about living away from home and experiencing this big step in their life. I was able to hone my leadership and problem-solving skills, as well as my interpersonal skills with coworkers and with students themselves. It is also a very supportive environment with supervisors willing to help you however they can.

What I wish was different

What I wish had been different is that we sat and learned of each department from 10 AM to 5 PM, however, we were also tasked to do other things that made us work beyond 5 PM which was tiring but that's really it for what I would change.

Advice

I would like to share that go into this with an open mind, you will be meeting new people and also living in the same building with these people. You'll have fun by meeting new students and helping them in the long run. You might have some days when you're exhausted after Orientation but that's understandable but being there for the students should hopefully make it worth it.

Research Assist

May 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I really liked how seriously I was taken. My opinion was actually considered and entirely altered the research and the direction it was going.

What I wish was different

I worked remotely and had a call with my professor every 3ish weeks. I wish I was able to work with her more directly but when it isn't lab-based research and more abstract it's really likely that the case is that you don't get a lot of guidance.

Advice

Talk to your professors about what interests you. I got this research assistant job because I critiqued a field trip that my professor took us on and she thought my insight was necessary for a book she's writing and a convention she's doing. It is because of this she offered me a position.

Student Administrative Assistant

September 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

In that I was able to hone in on skills that will be applicable in the workplace once I graduate and have a full time offer.

What I wish was different

If I didn't have to do so much shredding during the summer because it made me sick for a couple of weeks due to the fact that I was shredding documents from 20+ years ago.

Advice

My advice would be to persevere and put your best foot forward so that you can make a great impression on the people who you work for and always work hard so that it can help your development as a professional, be relied on to do bigger tasks and build trust amongst colleagues.
