PAE Consulting Engineers

Electric Engineering Intern

June - August 2019 • Portland, OR

What I liked

During my internship I was exposed to several different branches within the company. I went on several site visits and worked with a wide variety of people. PAE runs internships differently. They expose their interns to what the actual onboarding process is like, and I attended several sessions informing me about the company. I didn't have a set supervisor, but instead was "up for grabs" for any PAE employee to ask for my help. This way I worked with several different people and on a wide range of projects.

What I wish was different

I wish that the onboarding process was much smoother because there was a lull period where I didn't have much work and had finished all of my trainings. Once people knew that there was an intern in the building to assign work to, I was able to get started on several projects and my time was easily filled.

Advice

Brush up on your AutoCad and Revit skills, and that will help get the ball rolling much sooner at your internship! Also, don't be afraid to attend company events (game nights, softball league, BBQs, etc.) the employees love to see their interns outside of the office environment because it shows that you truly are enjoying your time at PAE!

MEP Intern

June - September 2017 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

The internship was amazing. Everyone was very friendly and very open to helping you learn. They did a lot of activities over the summer too which was nice.

What I wish was different

It would have been nice to be able to go on various job sites rather than sitting in the office.

Advice

Definitely don't be afraid to speak out. If there is something that you want to know about or something that you don't like tell the staff about it.
