Palmer-Donavin

Operations Leadership Apprentice

February 2023 • Grove City, OH

What I liked

This position is very dynamic. Palmer-Donavin gives you every opportunity to explore whatever you're interested in while giving you a good group of people to bounce ideas off of. I enjoyed how the first part of the program was learning the operations of the business then transitioning into an exploratory role of shadowing other business parts while working on meaningful projects.

What I wish was different

There's nothing negative I can think of regarding the position or the company as a whole.

Advice

This opportunity is what you make of it. If you slack off it doesn't go unrecognized even though you work independently most of the time.

Human Resources Intern

October 2021 • Grove City, OH

What I liked

I really liked that I was a leader of my own learning and development. The team pushed me outside my comfot zone and always showed me support. Palmer-Donavin invests into their employees and cares about their development and success at all levels. This creates the amazing culture that Palmer-Donavin has to offer and the genuine people that maintain it.

Advice

The internship is truly what you make it. Make yourself available, be authentic, ask questions, and interact with people in the organization at all levels. The team at Palmer-Donavin is willing to learn from you as much as you will learn from them.

Data Analyst Intern

May - August 2022 • Grove City, OH

What I liked

Palmer-Donavin was a welcoming company and it was a great experience to work there this summer. Throughout this experience I learned many things about Microsoft PowerBI such as PowerQueries and Dax Formulas. I learned about automation and more about Microsoft Excel. Palmer-Donavin has a very welcoming feel to it. You can talk to almost anyone in the company and they are willing to help you wherever you need it.

What I wish was different

One thing I wished for at Palmer-Donavin during my internship was a capstone or project that I could present at the end of the experience.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share is to never stop learning at Palmer-Donavin because there was so much to learn in my 3 months and I wish I could have learned more.

HR Intern

May 2022 • Grove City, OH

What I liked

Arriving on my first day, I was immediately greeted at the front door and got started right away. I was introduced to all of my coworkers and got set up with my own company computer and some other gear. The reason I took this internship was because I needed hands on experience, not just doing intern work. I was not disappointed. From the first week they had trained me to start the first rounds of delivering interviews. By the end of the 3rd week, I was already doing full cycle recruiting; from resume reviews, phone screen interviews, in person interviews and offering candidates jobs. I felt in charge of my calendar and felt a sense of business owner mentality with it. On top of the work, the culture here was very unique in the sense that everyone seems to be looking out for you. I never came across a coworker that didn't want to talk to me or took anger out on any other coworker. I found that my coworkers spent time with eachother outside of the office, which, in my previous jobs, I had never seen. Overall, I will say that this internship was a knock out of the park. I'm very glad I took a risk and jumped on board with Palmer Donavin.

Advice

Don't be afraid to jump in and learn about other aspects of the business. In my experience, everyone has been more than happy to share about their roll in the company and I've even gotten to sit in on meetings that I may not have otherwise had I not networked around the company.

Operations Management Apprentice

June 2021 • Hebron, OH

What I liked

This great thing about this apprenticeship is that it is what you make of it. There are multiple different directions you can go in the company once you get settled in the apprenticeship and management will help guide you where you want to go. Everyone, from all levels of the company, are accepting, willing to help and want to see you grow and succeed at PD. Since I have been at PD, I was promoted out of the apprenticeship and into a full time role at the company.

Outside Sales Apprentice

June - November 2021 • Grove City, OH

What I liked

In this full time role I spent time shadowing and working with both divisions of Palmer Donavin in Exterior Doors and Building Materials. I shadowed Inside Sales, Outside Sales, Marketing, Purchasing, and the Warehouse team. The goal of the program was to train me to become an outside Sales rep to take over a territory by the end of the program. I came in with two others into the program and all three of us were placed in a territory before the end of the program!

What I wish was different

I have nothing bad to say about this experience and I would recommend it to anyone interested in outside sales.
