Location -- Centreville has bad traffic and is not a fun place to spend the summer, expensive rent My bosses were not the nicest to me. I think I was the only one that had this experience

What I liked

I liked that all of the interns worked together as a group throughout the whole summer. The coworker collaborative atmosphere made for an enjoyable work experience!

What I wish was different

I wish we had all had more individually pre-defined tasks to work on.

Advice

Try to network while you are there with as many people at the company as possible. You never know who can be a good contact for you later on in your career/job search!

Match pay from other similar firms (about $1.5 higher than parsons)

Find great managers that’ll give you opportunities to step up and get the work done.

I got to work on a team doing meaningful, intretesting work. I learned things that I never would have been able to do at school.

What I wish was different

I wish they were more organized with changing teams all the time.

Be prepared to meet deadlines but also potentially make no progress in months of work.

Computer Security Engineer Intern

What I liked

Everyone here is very interested in helping interns find what they are interested in, and make an effort to place you appropriately. They are also very forthcoming with advice and assistance when needed. While I was at Parsons, they held Lunch and Learn sessions each Wednesday on several professional and technical topics, like Docker, retirement and savings, reverse engineering, graduate school, etc. All of the employees are very talented and personable, and you are treated as a full-time member of your team. I even got to go rock climbing with my manager and program director!

What I wish was different

Some of the contracts and projects can be very long-term, and it can get boring working on the same tasks (or bugs!) each day. However, they make an effort to make working there interesting and fun.

Advice

You will need a top secret security clearance to do most work. They will share details on how to apply for this if you are accepted, but just know it can take a very long time.
