What I liked

When I initially was looking for internships, I was drawn to Pattern's startup culture. It is a fun, creative, and friendly work environment that has allowed me to succeed in both my personal growth and the company's growth. Over the past year and a half, I have learned a great many things about myself and how a successful company should operate. Pattern has provided me with many opportunities to provide insightful and meaningful input and labor to the companies operations. Outside of the opportunities provided, Pattern excels at goal setting with fun rewards like a trip to Great Wolf Ledge, the Global Leadership Summit, company outings to Vala's Pumkin Patch, and Top Golf. My absolute favorite part is the culture and people within the organization. I have made many friendships with my coworkers and every Friday we celebrate everything we achieved thorughout the week!

What I wish was different

One thing that I wish had been different was having a more uniform onboarding process. My first couple weeks with Pattern was a little disorganized with shadowing other employees and getting trained. Becasue of the large volume of expected business the company hired a few more interns who I mainly trained, despite being at the company for only a month. However, Pattern has grown so much since that first month and has had a much more uniform and official onboarding process to help welcome new employees!

Advice

One piece of advice for students who are looking for internships is to keep an open mind when on the job search. I'll be honest I never would have imagined myself working for an insurance brokerage company! Nevertheless, I have learned so much importance of loving who you work for and with. The biggest lesson I learned is how essential it is for your values to match up with whatever company you might decide to work for!

What I liked

They were extremely welcoming upon hiring. The entire company will offer you any help you need. It has also been very accommodating with school hours and any other personal reasons. The reason I applied was because of the size of the company. The best part is that I know everyone in the company and they all made it a point to introduce themselves and befriend me.

What I wish was different

I wish I know more about insurance. In the end it did not matter too much because they explain everything to you, but having some background information would have been nice.

Advice

If you are a person who enjoys a fun work environment, I would definitely look into Pattern. Meet all the members and become good friends with them! Also, make sure you watch the office, there are quite a bit of office memes and references.

What I liked

The company really values opinions from what interns have to say. There are lots of meetings company wide where everyone is able to contribute ideas which can be implemented company wide. They also allow you to pursue your interests. While I am on the quotes team I have been able to help develop an entirely new system and website for the company. On top of that every quarter the company has goals in which if met the employees receive some type of reward. Past examples have included bonuses, gift cards, and paid trips to Valas. On top of all of that, I have really enjoyed the company's culture. Everyone is extremely nice, and they make you feel welcome starting off on day one. The company was also allows working in the office or from home.

What I wish was different

I started off my training right as the Covid lock down hit so I was trained at home. It was somewhat hard to learn at home and met others at the company, however I have been able to work in the office since early summer so these small problems have been fixed.

Advice

The biggest piece of advice I can give is to make sure you have a strong work ethic. During the summer time, is it the busy season for Pattern. This means that during this period you will be fairly busy during the day. It was nothing unbearable, however it is not a slack off internship during that time. However though it made me much better at prioritizing and multitasking

What I liked

I really enjoy the culture Pattern has. They live their values through and through. Everyone from interns to partners are valued at this company and they want everyone to feel passionate about what they do. Pattern is more than an 8-5 for mostpeople, it is like a second family!

What I wish was different

I wish I knew more about the company coming in. It isa fantastic company but i didn't really get a feeling for who they were until about a month into working.

Advice

Advocate for yourself! Pattern wants you to learn and grow. In fact one of their core values is learning forward. No matter if you are an intern, you are still an important part of the team and as such your voice matters. if you have an idea, share it. If you think something could be more efficient, share it!
