Store Operations Intern

May - August 2019 • Topeka, KS

What I liked

I LOVED the people at Payless. They made me feel welcome and helped me learn while working on my projects. I loved having the opportunity to learn in a comfortable environment and improve my skills without feeling crazy amounts of pressure.

What I wish was different

I wish I got to interact a little bit more hands on with a bigger impact on the company. Although my work was meaningful and I can tell that it was meaningful to the company, I wish I got to be a larger part of Cash flows, or other finance related things. I had a little bit of exposure to accounts payable which was interesting, but that was likely due to my job title.

Advice

Take advantage of the people around you- its much too easy to hide at your desk and avoid consulting others and getting to know them. Just because you're there to work doesnt mean that you need to work only on your projects, you can also work on your personal networking skills and get to know your neighbors.
