Cashier

May - July 2018 • Madison, WI

What I liked

What I wish was different

I personally did not like the atmosphere and the company culture that I worked in. While the employees themselves did a good job with the customers and cared for their needs, it was abundantly clear to me that the company itself did not care about anything but the customers' money. While I do understand that the point of a business is to make money, there were certain policies in place that I believed were unfair to the customers. The technology they had there was also very out-of-date, whiched caused problems for me as an employee and made my job far more difficult than it needed to be.

Advice

Unless you're ok with making money simply by being a cog in a machine, do not work for this company. However, if you would rather have a job that is more meaningful and that is not simply selling overpriced products to customers who don't know the real value of the product, then I would suggest finding a different job.

Human Resources Distribution Center Intern

June - August 2019 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

I liked how we were able to get practical experience in the work place and that we had complete ownership/control over the project we were assigned at the beginning of the Summer!

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time to learn about all the different areas of Human Resources at PetSmart; my project did not fall directly into a certain role/position if I was offered a full-time position after the internship. I had to take time out around my project to learn about and visit the different departments to discover what area of HR I was ultimately interested in if I were asked to return.

Advice

Be open to all of the opportunities that are presented/thrown your way! If I had not been open to the experiences, I wouldn't be where I am today. There was so much more that PetSmart taught me during the internship than I could have ever imagined!
