What I liked

My favorite thing about my time at PICA was working in their offices, where I got to see how an arts organization functions. I helped copy edit publications, and got to sit in on meetings that—though they didn’t usually pertain to the work I was doing there—gave me even more perspective into how they ran things.

What I wish was different

At various points when artists involved with PICA were visiting, I wish I had been more outgoing in trying to talk to them more. Especially when their own work was showing, I was bursting with questions.

Advice

My greatest piece of advise is to take every opportunity to seek out advice from people whose presence in your life is limited. I think in the arts especially, there isn’t as much of a clear path in how you get to your goals; it feels like things kind of take shape as they go along, but recognizing that the people around you can help alter that path, and reaching out to them can change a lot for the better.
