consumer insights intern

May 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I love the subject material I have been given. Working on quantitative and qualitative research and finding the story within has been excellent. I have a deep connection with food and working at Potbelly has really paired my skill set with something that is very close to me.

What I wish was different

I wish there was a bit more communication between upper management and myself. It can be confusing when you are off on your own for most of your projects with no concrete due date.

Advice

When cutting data look beyond the general purpose of the research. Find new information because it could lead to something really special.

Training and Leadership Development Intern

Potbelly is a company that really values their culture. I had great experience and was assigned projects I never expected to work on. My internship at Potbelly gave me confidence to be successful in my future career.

Advice

Do not be afraid to ask for more work, and work really hard. If you prove that you are capable and willing, you will be brought onto other projects that are beyond the intern level.

Marketing Intern

June 2015 - March 2016 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

Loved the people I got to work with and the projects I got to work on. I had the opportunity to participate in a wide range of marketing projects such as consumer insights (assisting in food testing), digital strategy (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter copy), and in-store campaigns. I got to see my copy go up in 300+ shops across the nation. Great resume builder and experience!

What I wish was different

My only feedback was that my supervisor switched halfway through my time here and it was a confusing transition. Wasn't necessarily bad and was actually a learning experience, but at the time was rough because it felt like I was starting over again.

Advice

Always attend social events! I was lucky to be invited to book clubs, potlucks, happy hours and more and I'm glad I went to as many as I could. I got to learn a lot about my coworkers beyond what they did in the office everyday and I really enjoyed making friends and learning more about people.
