Progressive Pipeline

Political Media Fellow

What I liked

I love the hands-on support I receive both from the higher-ups and colleagues. They are committed to tailoring quality professional coaches to help guide development toward finding opportunities to master hard and soft skills. I've received excellent pointers on often overlooked skillsets such as networking until joining my fellowship within the Prorgressive Pipeline. Fellowship opportunities like this are a blessing for individuals unaware or unable to connect with people and organizations essential to kickstarting a professional career outside of a college education.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been more involved in the transitionary period of my fellowship timeline. Outside of conversations with Pipeline higher-ups and my future employers, it was a little ambiguous from both parties on where my fellowship contract existed. Thankfully, I am all up to date now with further clear communication. An opportunity or organization-led event to meet with fellow cohort members would also be fantastic. My coach has done an exemplary job helping me connect with my Pipeline cohort peers. I heard the fall season is smaller than the summer cohort, so many engagement efforts are different depending on the season.

Advice

Reach out, ask questions, and be flexible. This incredible learning opportunity diverges from your academic career into your chosen career(s) of choice. If you didn't or couldn't start your network before, there is no better time than now!

The application process was quick, easy, and very transparent. They were supportive, helpful, great at keeping in contact, and made sure to let me know how things were going at every step of the process.

What I wish was different

My experience with Progressive Pipeline has honestly been overwhelmingly positive, I don't really have any regrets aside.

Advice

Go into the process with an open mind, after you apply, the folks at Pipeline will try to match you up to the position they think fits you best, and it may not be exactly what you had in mind. Even so, don't be afraid to give it a shot, you may find that the experience is very beneficial. Also, make sure to take advantage of your fellowship advisor, they are there to help you and can provide lots of valuable aid and advice!

What I liked

I loved the supportive atmosphere and opportunities to learn/network with other interns. My internship allowed me to learn from different members of the organizations I was partnered with, which gave me great insight into the day-to-day operations.

What I wish was different

I hope that Progressive Pipeline expands its partnerships in the future with other organizations/has more flexible opportunities for students (remote, part-time, etc).
