About Project Adventure

Our Mission
We are committed to promoting adventure and experiential education as a catalyst for positive and lasting growth. To that end, we seek to deliver exemplary trainings, programs, publications, and challenge courses that inspire those transformations.

Our Story
In 1971, Project Adventure, (PA) a Non-Profit 501(c)3 Organization was founded by a few visionary educators in Hamilton, Massachusetts who wanted to bring the tenets of Outward Bound into an educational setting. Wanting to make a positive difference in the lives of their students, the teachers began inventing cooperative games, developing team-building initiatives, and constructing the first-ever ropes course built in an educational setting. Through their challenging adventure activities and focused reflection, they found that they could motivate their community of learners to achieve outstanding progress personally, academically, and socially. Pioneering the foundational concepts of the Full Value Contract and Challenge by Choice, the non-profit they established to advance experiential and adventure education would eventually inspire millions of individuals to step out of their comfort zones and animate their values.

Today, Project Adventure, is an internationally-recognized full-service organization dedicated to excellence across a range of services, publications, and products that have helped multitudes of individuals, schools, agencies, and corporations achieve positive and lasting change. Dedicated to the advancement of adventure and experiential learning, we have not only developed challenge course elements and products that have become standard across the field, but we have also proudly assumed a lead in the establishment of influential professional associations, including the Association for Experiential Education (AEE), the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT), and the Independent Schools Experiential Education Network (ISEEN). Unwavering in our commitment to our founders’ vision, we continue to live our mission every day so you can live yours.
