What I liked
The community of PT is unmatched. The kids are fantastic and the churches/volunteers are a huge blessing.
What I wish was different
The program was not as faith-centered as I imagined it would be, so I don't feel I grew spiritually as much as I did in other ways.
Advice
The position is very demanding, but support is available so employees can have a positive experience; make use of the support systems in place.

As a reading coordinator, I was able to assist in giving kiddos more than just a summer of fun. Reading is a skill that is lifelong, and I knew that once the summer was over, they could take what they learned at PTNT and use it in school, in college applications, and even in future careers.

What I wish was different
I wish the actual management/ leadership of the program its self was better.
Advice
Just Continuously remind yourself that it’s for the kids. Everything you experience once you leave site everyday just stay focused on the kids and your actual purpose for being there. Also try and enjoy it, the experience is what you make it.

What I liked
I liked the children that I taught over the summer. My role as a youth team member was to teach my children life skills, biblical knowledge, and moral and ethical behavior. They taught me more than what I taught them, and I believe my children think vice versa.
What I wish was different
The leadership of the program was chaotic. I wish they would have better management skills and communication skills.
Advice
My advice would be not to look at the leaders of the program, but to actually understand what the program is about. Once you figure that out, you will be on your way to having a great summer.

Intern
May - August 2019 • Dallas, TX
What I liked
I appreciated having the ability to work with children from lower income communities and getting to know each and every one of their different personalities. Every Friday we also had what they called "Friday Experiences" where you can (of your choice) choose what informational event regarding to your major you can attend or even just give back to the community while engaging in various projects.
What I wish was different
I wish that the program was a little more organized and that they communicated with the interns properly.
Advice
Time consuming for sure but, you'll have a blast while interning with Project Transformation North Texas.

Volunteer Coordinator
May - August 2018 • Sherman, TX
What I liked
I enjoyed getting to work with the children, other college students, and the church members of our host church. I made life-long friends and hopefully made a life-long impact on some of the young people I worked with.
What I wish was different
I wish my team had been better at dealing with conflict and getting along.
Advice
This is a life-changing experience. It was 100% worth the effort. You have to wake up every day and recognize that the work you do for Pt is for the kids and for your teammates, not about yourself. If you keep focused only on yourself, you ill not make it through the tough days. But if you remember that God has put you there to serve others and you approach your work with that attitude, each day will be a blessing.
