Intern

May - August 2017 • Charlottesville, VA

What I liked

I really liked the Red Light atmosphere. It's a serious place and everyone is passionate about their work, but the people themselves are so fun-loving and really supportive of interns and the internship program. No matter who you're working with, everyone will give you chances to help out and learn, and they love watching the interns learn as well. Interns are treated like part of the family, and you really get a great taste for the management side of the music business.

What I wish was different

This may just be part of the business, but you spend a lot of time in front of a computer screen, sitting down. While internships are criticized often for exploiting interns and forcing them to go out and about to run errands, I actually wish that I had more opportunities to move around and get out of the office. Some days, I would be sitting and looking at my computer all day. While it is just a part of the new digital aspect of the business, it got tedious at times.

Advice

Ask questions and take initiative! Help out whenever possible and if you're curious about something related to the business or you're just unclear on instructions, ask!
