Resilience Advocacy Project

Group Facilitator

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved that I got the opportunity to facilitate being that I have never been a group facilitator before. I learned a lot about being an advocate, creating a curriculum which I was nervous about at first. But I did fine. I also liked that this internship solidified my passion for social justice and advocacy, I liked that I was working with youth and people because I love working and meeting new people.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship was longer. Being that it was a summer internship and only for about 8 weeks, it went by fast. it was a great experience and I learned a lot but I wish it was longer,

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this experience is if it is meant to be, it will be. I did not get another position for another job that I wanted this summer and I was really disappointed. but I did not give up, I applied for this internship, went through the interview process, and got the opportunity to intern with some amazing people. My advice would be to go for something, apply if you're really passionate about the field and want to do something because you never know what can happen and you never know who you will meet along the way. Everyone has a path and like this internship helped me understand what I want to do with my future, it can do the same for someone else.
