I enjoyed getting to work closely with the keepers in the Small mammal area. It helped me learn a lot more about the back-workings of a zoo and they treated me almost as another keeper.
What I wish was different
That I would be allowed to do more, as an intern you cannot do some animal interactions or cleaning duties due to being unpaid and thus not covered by workers comp.
Advice
That there is a lot of cleaning in general when it comes to animal husbandry jobs, but focus on the highs of every day instead of the lows like sticking your hand in lemur poop.
