Intern

July 2018 • New Brunswick, NJ

What I liked

My internship is with someone whom I have been working with for years. It is a field I am not only passionate about, but provides me with experience for my future.

What I wish was different

Honestly, I love the structure of it, but perhaps it could have been more tailored to my specific field as I am hoping to go into project management, but my current placing touches a bit on everything.

Advice

I really do love hospital settings and administrative roles, and I work a lot with all kinds of people in my current position so I get an inside look of every aspect of the whole administrative system which is nice. It isn't a funnel that I work with but rather I am able to see all the pieces put together for one puzzle.

Biomedical Career Program student

June - July 2018 • New Brunswick, NJ

What I liked

I liked the emphasis of my volunteer experience was the disadvantage struggles that minorities undergo in health care that I can relate to. I had the opportunity to have clinical experience in witnessing the interactions between the physician and the uninsured population of New Brunswick. This added to my desire to continue my career.

What I wish was different

I wish that we could spend more time with a single physician of our preference.

Advice

Take advantage of the physicians that you are working with, not only to ask them question about medical terms and diagnosis but also lifestyle questions or ethical dilemmas that you forsee yourself experiencing. After asking the physician, he responded by explaining that it is good to have a warm heart and not callous in the beginning so it helps you endure with future patients.
