I liked how it was a learning experience on both the tutor's (my side) as well as the students. We were able to bond over scholarly texts and our analyses despite how all of us were coming from such diverse backgrounds. It's a beautiful thing when people coming from all walks of life can find commonality in healthy discussions.
What I wish was different
I wish there were professional development workshops for us tutors so that we could improve upon our skills to better help this specific population of students enrolled in the EOF Writing Practicum.
Be ready to engage in conversation! Conversation brings about great ideas and interpretations especially in a writing class like this! As a tutor/peer writer, you will have to at least "fake it till you make it" with your speaking confidence. It's what helps the students and also makes them feel heard and acknowledged.
