Out of Town Scoreboard Keeper

March 2016 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I really liked how with this job I got paid to watch baseball, so basically what I would do was that me and a couple other guys would sit down and watch baseball of the other teams that are playing during the giants game and when a score changes we would get up and change the score manually with all the scoreboards we have. So the job is fun because you get to watch baseball on TV, and then get up and change the scores whenever a score changes.

What I wish was different

It would of been nice if the job was closer to home because I do not live in San Francisco, I live in a town called Livermore that is about 45 to 50 minutes away from San Francisco, so the commute was kind of long at times.

Advice

One piece of advice that I would share about this experience is that it really helps to have connections with other people that you may know well depending on who they are, because that is how I go this job my old baseball coach who coached me for a year he happened to be the manager of the scoreboards in right field at the giants stadium, well I stayed in touch with him over the years and when I was a junior in high school he happened to have an opening at the scoreboard to hire one more person, so he offered it to me and I accepted it thinking it would be a very fun job being able to get paid to do something you really enjoy, which is to watch baseball. So yes I have had this job the past couple years and I still have it when I go home in the summer time.

San Francisco Giants Out of Town Scoreboard Operator

March 2016 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I liked the atmosphere of getting to experience At&T park, which is one of the nicest ballparks in the major leagues. Getting to go there for work was a very fun experience for me because not many students my age get to experience this, so I am very lucky I have this job.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish that had been different is the commute that's all I can say the only downside is I had to commute to San Francisco a lot from my hometown which was about 50 min away, so that took a while.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this experience of working for the giants in right field doing the scoreboard is to make the most of it because not many people get to experience working this, so if you have the opportunity make the most of it and I enjoy it, because right now I am making the most because I know one day once I finish college I will have to get a full time job, and I might not be able to do the giants job anymore.
