Sandy City has a rich historical background and heritage along with a tremendous amount of growth and development over the past century. Sandy was settled shortly after the first pioneers entered this valley. The pioneer leader, Brigham Young, sent settlers to an area 13 miles south of Salt Lake City. This settlement later became known as Sandy City.
Sandy is now an established, well-planned City just entering its second century of growth. It has become the southern hub of the Salt Lake Metropolitan area, which now has a population of more than one million. Sandy has changed from a small farming community of 6,500 in 1970 to a City of 98,949 in 2019 (estimate).
