Process Technology Intern

August 2017 • Swiftwater, PA

What I liked

It is great exposure to a real industry experience. Sanofi Pasteur is a vaccine manufacturer, so I've gotten familiar with production, research and development, and the engineering behind everything. As a chemical engineering major, this internship is a great place to see myself after graduation because the work I am doing is relevant and important. It is also authentic work that I am sharing with actual co-workers, which really gives me insight to how the industry world runs. I've extended further outside the classroom and already feel much more prepared when I look for a full-time position. It's also a great place to network, both internally and with external suppliers.

What I wish was different

The transition period between training and working was long and unproductive. For some time, I was finished with my training and wasn't assigned any work yet, so I went a few days really having nothing to do. Things have sped up since, but I wish I could've gotten invested in the work sooner. I also wish the drive had been shorter lol.

Advice

I expected my internship to be very hand-holding, since it was a Lehigh organized co-op. I learned quickly that once you get going, it's a very independent experience that forced me out of my comfort zone and fend for myself. So be alert and take initiative. Also be professional, social, and confident--I've learned personally can go a long way, especially in an engineering internship.

Marketing and Sales Intern

May - August 2018 • Swiftwater, PA

What I liked

The company made us feel like employees, rather than interns meant to do tasks that didn’t matter. The majority of tasks I was given we’re genuinely useful to the company.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been a better onboarding process to get us acclimated to the terminology of the company faster.

Advice

To be totally open to new experiences. Be willing to work on any project with anyone.
