What I liked

It fully submersed me into a technology environment. I was able to help with many things regarding network management, technical support, resource management and others. It was great to not only work in the IT department for this company, but it is for a robotics company. So I was able to experience firsthand how technology is advancing and shaping the future.

What I wish was different

I honestly can't think of much that I would change. I had a few leadership changes during my time, and that shaped things differently. However, it was nice to experience different leadership structures and it helped me to decide on what kind of leader I want to be in the future.

Advice

Change is constant and frustrating. This is a fact. Yes it can be difficult, but embrace the challenge. It won't last forever, and you will look back and see how you were strengthened and shaped by those hard experiences. So try your best to embrace those difficult challenges, because they will make you better. Not to mention you will learn more from difficult experiences than you will from simple ones.

Robotics Testing Intern

July - October 2020 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

There was a lot of hands-on work done in conjunction with using computer software to run tests and validate parts. People were nice, the schedule was as flexible as I wanted it to be, and mentors were always willing to help.

What I wish was different

There wasn't a lot of structure to the intern program. I wish there had been some framework for the purpose, goals, skills, etc. that interns would learn and understand.

Advice

You will need to create your own structure and be on top of asking for things to do if there isn't anything assigned or available for you to work on. However, it was a good experience and I would have liked to stay if coronavirus hadn't necessitated letting go of all interns.

Engineering Intern

May - October 2020 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

I loved my team, and the projects we have going on are insanely cool. I didn't realize what a gem I had found until I started working here, and I am SO HAPPY to be here. My supervisor and others above me were very hands-off, which at times could be difficult but overall this was good for my learning style. The company is still pretty small but it has been around since the 80s, so it feels like a start-up in some ways without the instability of start-ups.

What I wish was different

I wish I had started the job a little earlier, and sometimes I wished that I had a little more direction from my team or supervisor, but overall I would not change much.

Advice

This is a fantastic place to work, but be sure that you love your team. I was very lucky in the team members I have, and I think a large part of why I love it here is because of them.
