Schneps Media

Media Operations Associate

March 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Not one thing.

What I wish was different

Management should be removed entirely and reworked. However, you cannot count on that ever happening since it's a "family business." Those in power are simply in control by birthright and are not expected or trained to lead with integrity and accountability. Steer clear of the events division and its staff. I have witnessed too many people join the events team only to be used and abused. The events are cheap; there is false advertising about the venue, catering, entertainment, and raffles. The raffle is falsified. Design work is outsourced to cheap labor in Russia and will only make work and communication more challenging. Know that deadlines do not exist; this company is not organized. It operates on false eyelashes and spray tans. Foul language and name-calling are used to reference superiors, coworkers, and honorees. This company claims to hold its honorees in high regard, yet many are openly ridiculed and dismissed for age, ethnicity, or career. Schneps Media is not a company that practices work etiquette. There is a reckless and blatant failure to adhere to COVID-19 and variant protection protocols, and many honorees are unaware of the danger they are exposed to during events. Employees are not allowed to eat/breaks at events, and the company does not cover parking costs. Expect zero guidance, knowledge, or strategy to learn tasks because Management is both clueless and indifferent. One must figure everything on their own. Beware of this position as five prior employees have been let go just before eligibility for benefits. That is not a coincidence. This is the intent from the beginning, to release employees before collecting benefits. I have witnessed blatant discrimination and prejudice towards minority employees and honorees at events and in the office. The disrespect and disregard for employees is deplorable. I have witnessed several employees enter the events division dependent on this position; please know that you will work in hostile and unfair working conditions if you choose to enter this position. Know that this position is temporary, unreliable, and fixed for failure.

Advice

Steer clear of the events division and its staff. The company is behind in the times and far from a modern advertising agency. Please know that you will work in hostile and unfair working conditions if you choose to enter this position. Know that this position is temporary, unreliable, and fixed for failure.

Web Development Intern

June - September 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

People in Schneps Media are so friendly and helpful. My supervisors always guide me patiently and we became good friends. I learned a lot of useful skills of web development, both front-end and back-end, and really had a great experience in Schneps.

What I wish was different

I wish that I could had more opportunities to interact with people from other teams such as HR, Editorial, Marketing teams to learn more about how teams cooperate with each other in a company.

Advice

Do not be afraid of asking for help. Interns are not expected to know everything. Asking questions will show your eagerness to learn and let your supervisor know what challenges and problems you may face. It can also bring a fresh perspective and some new ideas, which could be very helpful for your work.
