Scholastic

Business Analyst Intern

June - August 2020 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Great, very dynamic culture. Closely tied with the Associate program, so a lot of exposure to recent graduates who can provide mentorship. Incredible onboarding procedures, as mentors and managers and heavily invested in intern's success and really invests time and effort to have interns up to speed. A great learning opportunity

What I wish was different

N/A, everything was incredible.

Advice

Make sure you ask a lot of questions throughout the entire internship, questions are a business analyst's best tool.

Digital Marketing Intern

June - August 2020 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I worked with an amazing team that was happy to include me on anything they were working on. I got to work on a lot of different projects and broaden my digital marketing experience through some really interesting campaigns. I also got to work with other interns and other departments which helped me get a better sense of the company as a whole and how it works, not just my job.

What I wish was different

COVID-19 caused the internship to be remote. Scholastic made it a great experience regardless, but I wish I had been able to be in the office.

Advice

Definitely take advantage of the experience. Always ask if there is anything more you can do or if there is another project you can help out on. It goes a long way.

Operations Intern

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I really enjoyed the workplace environment of Scholastic. Everybody there was welcoming and I met a lot of new people. The workplace is business casual which made it feel less intimidating and it was a lot easier to talk with upper management and with other employees. I got to learn more about the company and experience what the company is like on an everyday basis. Whenever I had a question, I had somebody to ask

What I wish was different

I wish that I had reached out to other departments and reached out to more people. I wish that I had been more diligent in what I was working on, not that I missed any project deadlines. But I wish that I had finished my projects earlier so that I could have had the chance to do other projects and show my managers that I was capable of doing a lot more.

Advice

One piece of advice that I would like to share is that the people at Scholastic are great. All of them are super friendly and are honestly interested in who their interns are. Definitely reach out and build a solid network of connections.

Editorial and Marketing Intern

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I liked being in the city for the summer, because there is so much to do during off-work hours.

What I wish was different

The division I worked in, Scholastic National Partnerships, really seemed like they didn’t need me there. It gave my superiors more stress just trying to find stuff for me to do to fill time. Also, the job description for all interns positions were vague and similar. I expected that I would be working in publishing, but that’s not at all what my job entailed.

Advice

Every time you have a meeting with a superior, whether organized by the internship coordinator for all interns or a meeting you organize yourself, always send a thank you email after. Our intern coordinator repeated this to us every single day.
