What I liked
This was for a joint presentation with my fiancee, a PhD student at John's Hopkins: "An Experimental Approach to Ancient Egyptian Metalworking." It was an Excellent opportunity to explore my personal interest in ancient metallurgy by putting together a presentation for the American Research Center in Egypt DC Chapter meeting. I enjoyed the chance to work with my fiancee, who is also interested in metal casting technology, to recreate an ancient Egyptian sistrum, a musical instrument, in bronze.
We sourced material and after countless hours of research and preparation enlisted the help of my grandfather, Bill, who worked in the R&D department at Bethlehem steel. Together, we cast several bronze sistrum handles to effectively recreate this instrument.
