Transforming lives since 1858, Shattuck-St. Mary’s School is a place where students come to pursue their dreams and create new dreams in the process. SSM is a global learning community that honors tradition while embracing innovation. By cultivating creative, independent thinking, we foster the transformation of our students to become citizens of integrity for an ever-changing world. In short, this Episcopal boarding and day school for grades 6 through 12 has been--and continues to be--a place that has nurtured generations of young people from all over the world. Our innovative curriculum includes our ScholarShift® program, weCreate® Center, and 9 Centers of Excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts.
Our rigorous academic program is a blend of traditional education and creative learning opportunities all facilitated through the ScholarShift® program. ScholarShift® prepares students to find success in college and beyond through a series of blended classes, a parallel curriculum of learning modules, and a year-long, self-designed educational experience--the Senior Initiative. Additionally, much of our blended learning model takes place in the weCreate® Center, a space in which students pursue their individual passions in various studios for video production, fashion design, graphic design, music production and performance, digital photography and much more.
The Center of Excellence system at our School provides the opportunity and structure for every student to pursue their academic, athletic, or artistic passion to the fullest extent while maintaining the rigor and schedule of a challenging academic curriculum. Our academic Centers of Excellence include BioScience, for students interested in pursuing a career in health science, Engineering, for students interested in any engineering specialization, and The Major, in which students create and pursue their own course of study according to their personal interests. Our athletic Centers of Excellence include hockey, soccer, figure skating, and golf, all for male and female student athletes, and all with multiple championship titles to their names. And, last but not least, our Centers of Excellence in the arts are the Vocal Performance Program and the Pre-Conservatory Program, for aspiring professional singers and musicians.
Finally, our School’s Vision Statement is that we aim to be a dynamic and diverse school community committed to excellence, integrity, and innovation, here and beyond the Arch. In support of its pursuit of academic and scholarly excellence, Shattuck-St. Mary’s School is committed to creating a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff that is dedicated to the fundamental principles of equal opportunity treatment in education and employment regardless of age, color, disability, gender identity, national origin, political ideology, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status. The school encourages applications from individuals whose differing backgrounds, beliefs, ideas, and life experiences will further enrich the diversity of its educational community.
