About Sibanye-Stillwater

Sibanye-Stillwater is a leading international precious metal mining company, with a diverse portfolio of platinum group metal (PGM) and gold operations and projects. We are the world’s largest primary producer of platinum, the second-largest primary producer of palladium, and the third-largest producer of gold (on a gold-equivalent basis), as well as a significant producer of rhodium. We are also the leading global recycler and processor of spent PGM catalytic converter materials.

The three integrated facilities operated by Sibanye-Stillwater in Montana – the Stillwater mine near the town of Nye in Stillwater County, the East Boulder mine near the town of McLeod in Sweet Grass County, and the Metallurgical Complex in Columbus – are seeking motivated students and graduates for internships and career opportunities.

The J-M reef geological formation in south-central Montana, accessed by the Stillwater and East Boulder mines, is the only known significant source of platinum group metal (PGM) deposits in the US. It is also the highest-grade PGM deposit known in the world. The Columbus Metallurgical Complex includes a smelter, base metal refinery, and an analytical laboratory. In addition to platinum and palladium mining, the complex also recycles PGMs from spent catalytic converters.

Mining Engineering Intern

“Sibanye-Stillwater did an excellent job with my internship and I am very grateful I got the opportunity to work there. First, human resources set up intern tour dates to explore all three sites Stillwater has in Montana. Also they set up a fun day where all the interns got to go rafting and bond. I worked at the East Boulder mine site. The employees there are very kind and went out of their way to help me with anything I needed. I was able to not only learn about my main project but I got to work with the hard working men and women that are at ground zero doing everything needed to keep the mine running. I was also able to help out with weekly mine plans and gain valuable networking for the future. The types of people Sibanye-Stillwater employs really reflects the type of company they are. This goes from the managers who are very safety focused to the underground crews who I have made life long friends with. Also, without the help of my managers I could not have learned as much as I did. They were very helpful when I had questions. They let me learn and figure out the material rather than giving me a direct answer. They also pushed me to explore other parts of the operation. They talked to the shift supervisors about letting me ride around with them underground and learn all about the mine. One last thing I would like to add was they were very lenient with over-time and what days of the week I could work. It made the internship very enjoyable and flexible. If I was making headway on my project and wanted to work a Friday to continue on it, they would let me. ”
