I enjoyed getting to work one on one with a nurse preceptor whereby the end of the internship I was primarily giving care while my preceptor observed and gave input when needed. I got to work on my nursing skills such as inserting IVs, catheters, and assessments. Since the specialty hospital is a surgical hospital I was able to observe in the OR. I split my time between pre-op/PACU and the overnight unit. I felt being able to work in all of these areas helped me to understand the total care experience of a surgical patient.
What I wish was different
I would not change anything about my internship, it was a great learning experience and I worked with some of the best nurses ever.
Advice
I encourage other interns to ask a lot of questions and immerse themselves in the experience. An internship is totally what you make of it.
