Skyhawks Sports Academy

Camp Coach

June - August 2019 • Portland, OR

What I liked

I enjoyed getting to interact with the kids at the camp and help share with them my love of sports. It was a great feeling to see a kid improve in a certain sport due to the advice or help I had given him or her throughout the week.

Advice

Being a camp coach for younger children requires patience. It will take time for the kids to fully understand some of the games and skills of the camp. Just have patience and know that not everything will go exactly as you saw it going.

Camp Director

June - August 2019 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

The schedule, weeks were decently flexible and the hours were great.

What I wish was different

You had to pay for your own CPR training and often had to drive far for shifts. Another issue I had was I was hired as a director which is a higher pay rate but if I went to assist with another camp my pay rate would drop to that of a coach. I wish there had been more transparency about that aspect.

Advice

If you love sports and kids and have a lot of patience this is a great job for you!

Camp Director

May 2018 • Highlands Ranch, CO

What I liked

Great experience learning how to teach and work with kids of different age groups. I worked with kids ranging from ages 3-14. Management and hours are very nice.

What I wish was different

Sometimes there is not enough training but it allows you to learn to think on your feet. Hours are sometimes limited.

Advice

Great experience for future teacher. Gives you experience planning each camp day and working with children and parents.

Camp Director/Coach

May 2016 • Minneapolis, MN

What I liked

I really enjoyed getting to spend my summers teaching life and sports skills, primarily outside. I like the tools that Skyhawks has developed to help you be successful, including program curriculums that are easy to utilize and implement, and daily schedule templates.

What I wish was different

The hours can occasionally be spotty, based on number of staff available and number of camps we are running in a given week. Also, as a director, one downside is every open space in my car is consistently full of equipment.

Advice

Make sure you have a watch and lots of sunscreen
