What I liked

Company culture, my team was super supportive, intern events and networking with other employees and interns

What I wish was different

I wish I started to organize my time and document what I wanted to achieve earlier, be more verbal with my manager about my performance

Advice

Apply internships early and learn the company, team and the role you're gonna interview with

Sales Development Intern

June - August 2019 • Denver, CO

What I liked

Slack was a great place to work in terms of culture, benefits, and support. The Denver office was brand new and beautiful, tons of amenities and massages on Thursdays. I had a manager that I spoke with weekly and mentor that I saw daily. My projects were meaningful and challenging and required me to work with many crossfunctional groups. I developed some professional soft skills and I also got client-facing experience. Overall the internship program was very well put together, it included training in San Francisco, intern outings/activities, and an intern fair.

What I wish was different

The Denver office opened a few weeks before I started as an intern which meant things were really new to everyone. It was fun to be a part of the growth of the office but sometimes it was strange to see so many open desks waiting to be filled. I think the part that I struggled with the most was that there was only one other intern in the office and the rest of the employees were a bit older. I would love to see how this program and the Denver office grows because I feel that with more students, it would be an even more engaging program.

Advice

My advice for people who are interested in working with Slack or succeeding in this position would be to develop strong communication skills. Speaking in front of groups whether it be internally or with clients, was a really important part of this experience. If you are trying to get the job make sure to think through what makes great customer service and have some background on the company.

Product Marketing Intern

June - August 2018 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

Lots of autonomy and freedom in projects, great people and culture.

What I wish was different

More clarity about return offer process. My team didn't know if they could even offer me one because I was the first intern on the team.

Advice

Go above and beyond, use the autonomy to create projects, and meet as many people as you can.

Data Engineering Intern

May - August 2017 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

Great people both full-time and interns, great culture, great work, great perks

What I wish was different

Sorting out housing was left up to us

Advice

Make sure you spend time socializing, we were there to work but the people who didn't hang out with the other interns seemed to have a much less enjoyable overall experience
