Advice

I advise to not expect to receive a return offer right away at the end of the summer.

Electrical Engineering Intern

January - December 2018 • Minneapolis, MN

What I liked

Sleep Number R&D has a good team full of banter and fun times. They catered the co-op internship to my interests, exposing me to all parts hardware and software. I had several small projects throughout the year which I could call my own.

What I wish was different

SN keeps interns out of high-priority projects since the mentality here is very work-hard, play-hard. While I wanted to contribute more to these projects, most times I got handed a tertiary assignment which had about a 60% chance of being interesting and 40% not so. I doubt that you'll be bored for very long here though.

Advice

Be ready to pivot. They also appreciate generalists here, so bring your entire self to the internship and they'll accommodate within reason. (The team goes to CES here and sadly couldn't justify bringing the intern... oh well. Other than that, they'll work something out with you.)
