Slice Communications

Graphic Design Intern

May - August 2019 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

I had an amazing summer interning at Slice Communications, and there were so many things to love. Their office in the heart of Old City connected me to so many cultural outlets in Philadelphia, and it gave me the opportunity to work with a variety of city based clients including B.PHL, Philly Pretzel Factory, and more. The team was so welcoming and allowed me to explore my creative strengths and weaknesses. In the end I left with a great resource to contact when I look for jobs post-graduation, and an extensive collection of work for my portfolio!

What I wish was different

Honestly, I can't think of anything, except for maybe the crazy morning chaos on the way into the city. Public transportation is only so reliable, and even though they did give me a monthly travel stipend, sometimes it wasn't enough to cover my expenses.

Advice

I encourage everyone to apply for internships as soon as you can. Use the resources Arcadia provides and take advantage of them before you leave! I did my internship search all on my own, without anyone's guidance, but used Arcadia's connections like Handshake and Linked In Learning to explore what areas I wanted to learn more about and what companies I admired. Also, we're so close to Philadelphia that it would be silly not to expand your job and internship search into one of the biggest cultural hubs in the US!
