I got to see many different construction sites and learn how concrete is different for different applications. I also got to see lots of machinery like curb machines, cranes, loaders, dump trucks, pump truck.
What I wish was different
I wish I could have worked less. There were weeks I worked 80 hrs in a week, leaving me little to no time to live my life. Those weeks were really mentally draining.
Advice
Specify how many hours you would like before accepted the position and hold them to it. I left it open and found myself working way too much. Partially due to labor shortages but still.

Field Technician
May 2018 • Plymouth, MI
What I liked
I was given a lot of responsibility. I worked on construction sites -usually alone - verifying if the project specifications were met.
What I wish was different
My schedule is very unpredictable but with construction, they need you on site until they’re done... and even the project manager doesn’t always know when that is.
Advice
“I don’t know” is not a bad word. It’s better to say that and then call someone who will than to make something up or try to improvise.
