SMITHSONIAN - NATIONAL MUSEUM OF AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY AND CULTURE

Curatorial Intern

September 2021 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I enjoy working with the Smithsonian professionals to learn in more depth the racial problems throughout the American history and serve the general public.

What I wish was different

My wish is to illuminate the role of George Braithwaite in promoting the Ping Pong Diplomacy that thawed the rivalry between America and Communist China in the 1970s.

Advice

Always be proactive and prepared.

Education Intern

June - August 2017 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I thoroughly enjoyed working at this groundbreaking museum. I was able to get an inside look at the education department of a large scale museum and was able to tour exhibits before anyone else got to.

What I wish was different

I wish I had a bit more communication with my supervisors. They picked me for my ability to work independently, but at the same time because of how busy the museum was this past summer, were not able to be as on top of communication as I would have liked.

Advice

Take advantage of EVERY event held at the museum and any other Smithsonian museums. The Smithsonian Institution intern badge is a very valuable passport into some of the best museums in the world. USE IT!!!
