Snap

University Recruiting Intern

June - August 2021 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I love the company culture at Snap. Everyone was genuinely invested in my growth and development from the first day that I started. As part of my onboarding at Snapchat, I was able to join a new hire council to connect with all of the new hires that started working on 6/7. It was a great opportunity to connect with other people but also not feel like I was just an intern there. Everyone listened to what I had to say and gave my position as much weight as a seasoned employee.

What I wish was different

I wished we were able to incorporate our Buddy Mentor program towards the beginning of the summer rather than towards the middle. A lot of interns expressed wanting to connect with people they identified with at the company but many interns were reluctant to reach out because they were new hires. The Buddy Mentor program helped to bridge the gap by giving seasoned employees apart of our ERG programs an opportunity to connect with interns over the summer.

Advice

Be open and connect. A lot of the people that I was able to connect with over the summer happened during informal meetings and me taking the initiative to reach out via email or Linkedin. Once you establish that relationship it makes it easier to have conversations around career paths and it's nice to have someone who knows the company a little bit more guide you as a student. So please network!! It's essential. I don't think I would've been recommended for a full-time position if I hadn't.
